Treatment we might have never heard of for Asthma - Peloid therapy, Supratonal Currents, Massage Therapy, Remedial Gymnastics
I was so busy yesterday that I wasn't able to post about World Asthma Day.
Well lets see new treatment approaches used for Bronchial Asthma -
Peloid Therapy - Peloid is therapy with mud or clay. It is widely used for
cosmetology but have therapeutic effects for rheumatic disorders,
osteoarthritis, gynecological disorders, sciatica, skin diseases, trauma
and many other ailments. It consists of humus and minerals formed over
many years of geological and biological, chemical and physical
processes. Eg. Peat Pulps, Medicinal Clays, Plant Extracts, etc. Health
Spa uses lake and sea muds too. Therapeutically it can be given in the
form of peloid wraps, peloid baths, peloid packs which can be applied
locally or in the form of bath too.
Supratonal currents -
Electromagnetic therapy involves the use of energy to diagnose or
treat disease. Electromagnetic energy includes electricity, microwaves,
radio waves, and infrared rays, as well as electrically-generated
magnetic fields. There are medically approved uses for some electronic devices, such
as the electroencephalogram (EEG), electrocardiogram (EKG), and
transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation units (TENS). Such devices
are used to diagnose nervous system and heart problems and treat pain by
interfering with nerve conduction of pain impulses. However, many of
the alternative electronic devices promoted to cure disease have not
been scientifically proven to be effective.
Practitioners claim that when electromagnetic frequencies or energy
fields within the body go out of balance, disease and illness occurs.
They claim that these imbalances disrupt the body's chemical makeup. By
applying electromagnetic energy from outside the body, usually with
electronic devices, practitioners claim they can correct the imbalances
in the body. Practitioners claim that these methods can treat ulcers, headaches, burns, chronic pain, nerve disorders, spinal cord injuries, diabetes, gum infections, asthma, bronchitis, arthritis, cerebral palsy, heart disease, and cancer.
Massage Therapy - Massage to head, neck, face, shoulders, hands, and feet in kneading and stroking methods have shown beneficial role for massage therapy in pediatric asthma. It improved the key pulmonary functions of the children, namely, FEV1 and FEV1/FVC ratio.
Remedial Gymnastics - Remedial gymnastics are composed of:
- therapeutic exercises to make muscles strength better and for muscle stretching,
- balance and coordination trainings,
- posture and pace correction,
- the correction of movement stereotype,
- relaxation techniques.
In case of breathing problems (bronchial asthma, bronchitis, and pneumonia) are included breathing exercises: drainage of lungs, relaxation poses.
Below is the abstract of the study which shows the effectiveness of a combination of peloid therapy, supratonal frequency currents, inhalations, massage, and remedial gymnastics. Excellent study, isn't it?
Share to your friends so that they also know about these alternative therapies used for patients suffering from Asthma. Thank you.
A new approach to the treatment of patients presenting with bronchial asthma and concomitant allergic rhinitis.Vopr Kurortol Fizioter Lech Fiz Kult. 2013 Sep-Oct;(5):23-8.
[Article in Russian]
Abstract
The present study included 73 patients presenting with bronchial asthma (BA) and concomitant allergic rhinitis (AR). Based on the results of their examination, a program of their two-step treatment was proposed including elimination therapy during 5-7 days followed by the combined treatment
with the use of physical factors, such as peloid therapy, supratonal
frequency currents, inhalations, massage, and remedial gymnastics. This approach allows to significantly reduce the frequency of clinical manifestations of the primary and concomitant
diseases. Specifically, the incidence of daytime choking fits decreased
by 66.7%, coughing by 76.7%, nasal stiffness by 60%, and rhinorrhea by
62,6 with the simultaneous acceleration of the overall clinical effect
by 3-4 days. The requirement for short-acting broncholytic agents
decreased after the treatment
by 56.7%. Its anti-inflammatory effect in the upper and lower
respiratory tract was confirmed by the results of endoscopic examination
of the nasal cavity (the occurrence of mucosal hyperemia and mucosal
oedema decreased by 70% and 60% respectively whereas the presence of
secretion in the nasal passages was recorded 76.7% less frequently than
prior to the treatment).
Cytological studies of surface epithelium revealed reduced neutrophilia
and eosinophilia, decreased number of goblet cells in nasal mucosa, and
lowered content of sialic acids, IL-1, and IL-6 in nasal lavage.
Combined therapy improved the patency of both upper and lower
respiratory tract. Moreover, the number of patients
with the totally controlled clinical course of BA increased by 66.6%.
It was shown that remission of BA and AR persisted within 10 and 8.2
months after the treatment respectively.
